World of Clay brings together works from a close-knit community of ceramic artists connected through decades of shared seasonal firings and a spirit of experimentation.
Showcasing the mastery required of a range of ceramic techniques, the exhibition features oxidation, salt fire, wood fire, and pit fire, along with high- and low-temperature processes. The resulting works reflect the breadth of contemporary functional, decorative, and sculptural pottery within the North American ceramic landscape.
The American studio ceramics movement of the mid-20th century marked a period of renewed experimentation with traditional firing methods. Exploring the transformative effects of flame, salt, atmosphere, and ash, pushing the expressive possibilities of clay.
This exhibition is brought together through the efforts of Randall Becker. Becker studied under Don Reitz, a tremendously influential American ceramicist known for revitalizing salt firing and expanding the sculptural possibilities of clay.
